Smoothed, unadjusted hazard rates of external causes of death according to age during follow-up, sex, and gestational age at birth. Individuals born in Norway (1967–2002) and Sweden (1974–2001). The hazard function is based on a weighted kernel-density estimate (Epanechnikov), using the bandwidth that would minimize the mean integrated squared error if the data were Gaussian and a Gaussian kernel were used. For each category, the plot range is constrained to the earliest failure time plus the bandwidth, and the latest failure time minus the bandwidth. Note that the different outcomes have different y-scales
